CD Reviews

Greatest Repackage
Dave Bara | Auburn, WA United States | 08/31/2005
(3 out of 5 stars)

"This is essentially nothing more than a repackaging of the 1998 "Greatest" CD and DVD (previously sold separately) into a single package. If you don't have it yet and you really want it, this collection is a good way to get the full package. One note however, the version of this I have seen out in the stores doesn't have the full list of videos on the DVD that the separate package had, so beware. Make sure you are in fact buying what you want and don't get your panties in a bunch if the particular video you wanted isn't on there!"
All the Big Hits From Duran, Sound & Vision
gnagfloW | Rosa Barks | 06/11/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This edition is an imported version of Sight & Sound series which is popular in the UK. Basically this is a combined version of the Greatest Hits packages that were available a few years back.

The CD has all the main hits (pre Astronaut) plus a few lesser known hits. Some songs are edited versions so if that is an issue, beware. This is especially evident on the Rio tracks and Ordinary World. For most people though these are the versions they know having heard them on the radio for 20+ years. I could say that such and such song should have been included (OK, Violence of Summer) but can not find any real fault in the selection. The sound quality is fine which should not be a surprise; the sound quality of DD was always top class.

The DVD has all the songs from the CD in addition to The Chauffeur and Burning the Ground. The clean version of Girls on Film is included which in my case works well since my 3 year old son watches these videos a lot. The bulk of the videos have aged well, in particular the early songs and those from the Wedding Album. The sound quality here, however, is sub-par, with no surround alternatives. Make sure not to buy another version available with only 12 (I think) videos, far too many good songs are omitted on that one.

Overall this is a fine anthology of DD both Sight & Sound wise and though it is tempting ducking a star due to the lack of surround sound in the DVD format, the budget price, excluding the US, of this set may justify such an absence."
