Product Description
Arkadia Records CD Thank You, Duke (also available as an MP3 download), creates a wonderful tribute to one of Jazz music s most eminent composers and important personalities. We at Arkadia Jazz feel it is important to honor the legacy of some of Jazz s greats. For our Thank You series of musical homages, we asked our artists go into the studio and record an all new, previously unreleased song either derived from or influenced by the enduring legacy Jazz s royalty, in this case, the incomparable Duke Ellington. From iconic musicians such as Billy Taylor and Benny Golson to leaders of Jazz new generation such as Chris Potter, Eric Reed, and T.K. Blue, Thank You, Duke is a lasting tribute, from some of the greatest musicians to grow from Duke s influence, to the composer, bandleader, and pianist who helped change the define the scope of American music. The depth and breadth of Duke Ellington's work is a testament to the monumental creativity displayed throughout his career. A century after the creation of Jazz, Duke remains ensconced in the Jazz pantheon, having pioneered a style that remains very much alive on the contemporary scene. From Big Band to Bebop, this exciting recording, from a talented and diverse collection of Arkadia Jazz musicians each performing in their own individual style, pays musical tribute to Duke Ellington on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
