CD Reviews

Treasures, for the lonely soul.

"THE 13TH CHAPTER is a celebration of the 13 years The Dreamside have been weaving together great Gothic Rock music, oftentimes containing lyrics with some sort of supernatural theme. But rather than compile a "best of" mix they decided to bring in fellow friends/musicians to guest on or interpret a few of their songs instead, most notably Angels Of Agony, Hungry Lucy, and Lunascape. The remixes are certainly decent enough but the real treat is their "newer" material. I still don't care much for their more polished version of "In Longing" but I especially love the melodic "Above Below Around", "Treasures" with 18 Summers, "Unspoken" with Kenji Siratori who gives the song a cool futurist feel, and "Sticks And Stones" which is classic The Dreamside.

I think this album is pretty good (appropriately 13 tracks total) but because the sound is so experimental, I definitely recommend this for die-hard fans only; not for anyone new to the group's music."

"I originally heard this band on the 'dancing in the dark 2006' compilation through the song also on this CD 'in longing' which I really liked due to its fairly metal sounding guitars, I then purchased the 'spin moon magic' album, which convinced me this band are good. This CD was a bit of a risky purchase as it is mostly remixes and alot of remixes of metal or goth and the like just dont work, and I already had a copy of 'in longing'. The remixes are mostly OK but dont appeal to me alot, but this version of 'in longing' is different, sounding a bit more polished and better produced, and the track 'sticks and stones' is very good also. I also really noticed how Kemi's vocals seem to sound alot better on this CD, not just distinctive ,but you can really hear the quality of her voice. Also included is a video clip of 'forsaken' which is interesting to see even though I dont particulary like the gothic scene which its obviously aimed at appealing to.The only annoying thing is that the track listing on the back of the CD case has tracks nine and ten reversed namewise,so I thought I was going a bit mad hearing lyrics from another track on the wrongly labelled track, but not a big problem. If you are a fan of these guys its definitely worth buying."
