More Great Stuff From Shadows

(5 out of 5 stars)

"First off, and for most, anyone who has heard a cover by Dreadful Shadows, weither it be Sisters of Mercy's "1959" or The Cure's "Lullaby", so know that these guys know how to play the classics. This cover of Tanita Tikaram's "Twist In My Sobriety" is no exception. The first track is just a straight-up great cover. It features the string edit true to the original, while adding an almost dance club like beat into the background of the song. Sven Friedrich's vocals are no doubt much more haunting that those of Tanita Tikaram, so it really turns the whole song for the better. Though, it doesn't seem quite as depressive as the original - It's far more creepy. The second track, "Twist In My Sobriety" (Version) is a brillant 6 minute remix of the previous. This very, however, goes WAY out of the loop of the original Tanita Tikaram song. But, Sven's voice is even more haunting in this version. And the music is surely much more evil than that of the previous track or the original version. The chorus of this one sounds especially good. Alright, now if you're like me, then you want to hear some original Shadows work as well. And you get that on this single. The final track is the Sven Friedrich writen "Regeneration". It's a very mellow song, with an excellent low-down beat (Being held by the synth and drums) throughout the entire song. It is one of my favorite Dreadful Shadows, and truthfully, I would've liked this song to be the bonus on 'The Cycle' rather than 'Twist In My Sobriety'. Oh well. This CD also comes with bonus features when you put in into your PC. With pictures and a live recording of their song, "Desolated Home" from the "Beyond The Maze" CD. All in all, if you like Dreadful Shadows or you like Tanita Tikaram's "Twist In My Sobriety", this CD is well worth the price. If you want more Dreadful Shadows covers, check out 'The Darkside of David Bowie' for their cover of "Outside" and Shadows' own CD, the 'Homeless E.P.' Which features an AMAZING cover of New Order's "True Faith". As for "1959" (As I talked about earlier on) is featured on the tribute CD 'Monochrome: A Tribute To Sisters Of Mercy'. Other covers such as "Lullaby", "The Crawl" (Placebo Cover), as well as more, are available on the MiniCD, "Apology"."
