CD Reviews

Great, but could be better:)

"Hold Tight! The Best Of The Fontana Years is so far the only US CD of Dave Dee, Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich.Released in 1995 it includes all their songs released on their 1967 US LP plus selected singles.Colletables, the company that put out the CD, should be commended for releasing this very excellent but long obscure group. Some songs that were released in mono could have been released in stereo(Save Me, You Know What I Want)and some songs could have been better off on the album as single mixes(You Make It Move.)The liner notes lists the catalogue numbers of their British singles in case anyone is interested further in this group. However some of the liner notes are inaccurate. It lists the first Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich single as Bad News-partially correct, but that was their first US B side! Also mentions that Dave Dee had a solo release in the US as Annabella but the writer was possibly confused with the OFFICIAL US version by Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds-Dave Dee never has a solo relase in the US.I've called Collectables many times with my corrections! Also mentions that after the group broke up, their songwritwers/mamagers produced a pop group called the Herd featuring future star Peter Frampton.I recommend this album because it is reasonably priced and it's a good introduction to this group.Anybody who likes British pop or obscurities should buy this album.I bought mine during the blizzrd of '96 and it kept me warm!I hope Collectables releases a second album by Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich called Zabadak!-The Best Of The Imperial Years, for this group releaed much, much more material than meets the eye."
