(5 out of 5 stars)

"This album rates among my favorite by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. All the songs on this album are awesome. I play it often. I have most of this groups albums and you can't wish for a better bluegrass christian music group. Keep up the good work. I look forward to purchasing more new music by this group in the future."
Exceptional Bluegrass Gospel

"Doyle Lawson has been recording bluegrass gospel albums with his band Quicksilver for more than a quarter century. That Sugar Hill Records has kept most of his albums in print is a testament to the staying power of this talented musician.

After playing mandolin for the Country Gentlemen for eight years (1971-1979), Lawson formed Quicksilver and released their self-titled debut in 1980. The album featured mostly secular bluegrass tunes with a couple of gospel numbers. For their follow-up, 1981's ROCK MY SOUL, they recorded all gospel tunes; and it is one of the band's best.

The success of this album is a result of excellent musicianship and wonderful four-part harmonies. Their voices are so amazing, there are no fewer than three a capella numbers: "Sweet Chariot," "Jesus Gave Me Water" and "Jesus I'll Never Forget" (and the only instrumentation on the title track is an understated guitar). Other standout tracks include "Angel Band," "River of Death" and "A Beautiful Life."

In addition to Lawson on mandolin, the band is rounded out by Terry Baucom (banjo), Lou Reid (bass), and Jimmy Haley (guitar). Also, Bobby Hicks guests on fiddle on a handful of tracks, including "I've Got a Lot of Heaven."

Overall, this is an excellent bluegrass gospel album from start to finish. [Running Time - 31:23] VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
