Synopsis

Product Description
Doveman plays lamp rock and insomnia pop, drawing deeply from downtown jazz, new classical, slowcore, debonair ?60s pop, and ambient music to create an unusual and delicate sound that The New York Press says "evokes that rare moment when nostalgia and sadness meets love." Time Out New York once remarked that Doveman singer Thomas Bartlett ?often sounds as if he?s on the brink of passing out from heartache fumes,? but Doveman?s music isn?t about fainting but rather the rapturous swoon which precedes it. Doveman's debut record, The Acrobat, is reminiscent of downbeat masters of melancholy like Nick Drake, Before and After Science-era Eno, and the latter-day Talk Talk, and the music has the unmistakable ring of pre-dawn loneliness, as intimate as it is forlorn.

CD Reviews

Utterly enjoyable.

"I grabbed this CD because I saw them open at a concert. I must admit; I'm not a fan of the vocals at first. However, it works as the lyrics can disappear into the music. This is one of the few CDs which I can listen to the same song twice and subconsciously pick how I interpret the music. I definitely suggest giving it a listen."

"Doveman creates achingly gorgeous songs from sentimental journeys not of this world.

From Honey, the first track to Dancing, the last track, being mesmerized by the breathy vocals to falling into a state of euphoria, seems common place and welcomed. Spiritual.....

I really enjoy the quiet music that resembles N. Drake or Mark Hollis. This is different from other artists akin to this indie sound.

The Acrobat makes my top 100 list for all time, and that could be achieved by the artwork and ghostly invasion alone ."
