CD Reviews

You Sure Can't Take His Blues
Moshe Reuveni | Melbourne, Australia | 01/20/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Simple blues music, with simple lyrics. Doesn't sound like a good recipe for a "five star" rated album, right? The edge comes from MacLeod's passionate performance, which makes the tunes and the lyrics stick hard inside you head. This album puts MacLeod in the very short list of "the Blues Masters".Exceptional recording quality gives this CD an additional edge when played through high quality hi-fi."
Simply The Best

"I bought this cd and the next day I bought Eric Clapton's 'Me & Mr Johnson". With all due respect to EC who has sold millions of cd's and entertained us for years,IMHO he couldn't carry Doug's guitar around for him. Simply put, MacLeod blows Clapton away. Songs like "Run With The Devil," Since I Left St Louis" "Rollin' & Tumblin" as well as the title song are JUST AWESOME. The best guitar and the most perfect blues vocals I've ever heard...I recently saw Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitar Players of All time and as far as I'm concerned, MacLeod is better than AT LEAST 85-90 of them. And he didn't even make the list....Do yourself a favor buy this cd ASAP and hear what the Blues is all about."
The blues at its simplest and best.

"Come to find is a masterpiece of acoustic blues. Doug Macleod has one of those distinctive voices made to sing the blues and does he ever. The instrumentation is also first class with Charlie Musselwhite adding Harp on several selections.I have the vinyl version and can't comment on the CD except to say that Audioquest most assuredly does a more than competent job on the digital version. Every LP I have bought from Audioquest has been a masterpiece in both the performance and the recording. Their blues repertoire is excellent. Buying "Come to Find" is a no brainer. The music, the performance and the recording are all stellar. A desert island selection if there ever was one."
