CD Reviews

The Best Days of Doris

"This CD set includes most of the songs from the movies Doris made in the early 50's. There are great numbers from "On Moonlight Bay", "I'll See You In My Dreams", "By The Light Of The Silvery Moon", "Calamity Jane", "April In Paris" and "Love Me Or Leave Me". Perfect for fans like me who know and love Doris best from seeing her in these films."
Some of the Greatest American music......but so expensive?

"This set contains many of the very best of Doris Day's 'film star' period -- late 1940s early-to-mid 1950s -- plus contemporary studio recordings -- several of which were with singers such as Johnny Ray. Why has it taken so long to come up with many of these masterpieces on CD??
I bought (and still have) many of these on 78s in the 1950s and thought -- as a young boy -- that Doris Day was absolutely wonderful and about as good a singer as you could get. I still hold that view, having listened more recently, and believe that when the historical balances finally settle she will be rated right up there with the very best -- Sinatra, Fitzgerald, etc. Her timing, her breath control, her sparkle, and her sheer loveliness ensure that. Maybe she fell from the media's eye because she was apolitical and, as she said, she enjoyed being a girl!! How un-PC!
Question remains: why is this box so ridiculouly expensive ...You can get the best 4-CD sets of the greatest jazz stars such as Lester Young and Coleman Hawkins for less ... What is up here?? Is Doris included????"

"Bear Family's box covering the recordings of Doris Day from 51-55. Along with the other 3 boxes in the series, you will be able to spend well over 24 hours with records of this angelic voice. Enjoy it once , and I'll bet you play it again in less than a week !"
