Don Rigsby's life-long passion for the music of Dr. Ralph Stanley comes to full boil on his latest Rebel release, Doctor's Orders: A Tribute to Ralph Stanley. The album features a selection of 13 faithful covers chosen by both Don and Ralph himself from a master list of over five dozen Ralph Stanley and Stanley Brothers recordings. With the exception of lead-off track The Mountain Doctor (co-written by Rigsby and Larry Cordle of Murder on Music Row fame), all the songs on the album are ones Stanley has recorded throughout his 67-year (and counting) career. Some songs are familiar pieces in the Stanley repertoire while others are rare gems the Old Master has seldom or never performed on stage.

Adding zest to the project are appearances by Stanley and former Clinch Mountain Boys Ricky Skaggs, Larry Sparks, Charlie Sizemore and Steve Sparkman. Stanley s current lead guitarist, James Alan Shelton, plays on many of the 14 selections as do such other prize-winning pickers including Ron Stewart and Barry Bales.
