KILLER FROM MEMPHIS
Blue Boy Soul | Memphis, TN | 11/16/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It's an amazing and wonderful thing to find an album/cd that has honesty and guts like Mr Nix's latest . It's Rumored that Don Nix was hurting more than Johnny Cash during these sessions.Listen carefully to "ONE STEP AHEAD OF THE BLUE"S" Fortunately for us, pain makes for great albums/cd's . This is a must for all Music lover's. Hanging out with George Harrison in the Studio and playing live at Madison Square Garden with him makes this Artist even richer in his sound : Don Nix just may have shown George a Memphis groove or two! Purchase this CD without concern it's another Killer from Memphis Tennessee ."

"Don Nix's "I Don't Want No Trouble!" is a delightful return to form. On the small Section Eight Productions label, you may have to hunt; but it'll be worth it. "One Step Ahead of the Blues" is a low-down explosive rocker that lifts the roof off. Recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis, "Memphis Man" is a fitting homage, "I'm a simple man with a simple plan, rock & roll, rhythm & blues." "Let the Wind Blow" builds on a slashing electric riff from Billy Crane (I think) that makes you want to roll down the windows & put the pedal to the metal. "Just About Had It" is stop-start boogie that sets your toe in motion. "Subject to Change" is a good track that rocks, "When you stop believin' there's no way that she'll be leavin', everything is subject to change." "Crazy from the Heat" has a 50s vibe and puts a retro smile on your face, "I'm crazy from the heat of your love." My very favorite track is "Addicted to You." Nix sets a catchy groove that grabs you & shakes you out of the chair, "I had the pills; I had the thrills; I threw the party & I paid the bills." The set ends with an uncharacteristic Southern gospel track, "I'm getting on board; I'm walkin' up the plank; I got the Lord to thank." The opener "Hole in the Sky" is a fine track with burning electric lead and Nix's passionate vocals, "I don't know the reason why so many people had to die, now we're fighting hand to hand, trying to save the promised land, hole in the sky, fire in the ground, smoke rising up & people falling down on their knees praying to the Lord above." Nix dedicates the set to bluesman Furry Lewis pictured with him on the inside cover & on the handwritten sign from above Lewis' bed, "Please Lord, help me keep my dam nose out of other people business." This is a firecracker set with at least 5 classic tracks, not to be missed. Bravo!"
