Brother Jukebox
Peter J. Curry | Palmyra, NJ USA | 01/30/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was music director for country music station WRCP AM&FM in Philadelphia when this LP by Don Everly came out in 1976. It blew me away then, and remains on my short list of all-time favorite albums. The backup musicians are all superb (especially Buddy Emmons on steel). And while not every cut is sensational, some are, in my opinion, among the finest recordings ever made in any genre. Standouts include Don's remake of the Everly Brothers' hit "So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad)," Fred Rose's classic "Deep Water" (a hit for Carl Smith) and Sanger D. & Darlene Shafer's heartbreakingly beautiful "Yesterday Just Passed My Way Again" (which was one of the last songs Lefty Frizzell recorded and easily one of the best recording he ever made). These are all "five star" performances and deserve a place on every music lover's jukebox."
