Scarlatti's keyboard sonatas contain the most charming, delightful, and madcap music of the entire Baroque period. Only 30 of them were published in the composer's lifetime, but their true number is rather staggering--555! This means that no two collections contain exactly the same ones, and while everyone will have favorites, the music itself is so entertaining that in many respects it doesn't matter which ones you buy, as long as you start somewhere.
