CD ReviewsA great collection of music berkshire_cowboy | Columbus, Ohio | 11/29/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "Sure, it's not a perfect anthology. The addition of a few Troiano-era Guess Who tracks, a couple more Mandala cuts, a more balanced selection of songs from his solo LPs, and a handful of tunes featuring Troiano's playing/writing/production from other artists would have resulted in the ultimate career retrospective. Nonetheless, this CD serves as a nice introduction to those unfamiliar with this Canadian guitar superhero. Longtime fans will also appreciate this set, as it features stellar sound quality and some tracks previously unavailable on compact disc, such as "Turn Back," from Domenic's Black Market/power-pop phase, and "Elenora Fagan," a lovely and forgotten instrumental from his 1978 solo effort, The Joke's on Me. This collection is highly successful in showcasing Troiano's versatility as a musician, documenting his forays into soul, jazz-rock, funk, fusion, and R&B-tinged pop. Although no songs from his 1973 album Tricky are here, Domenic's self-titled Mercury LP is nicely represented with 4 tracks, including the pop hit that never was, "The Writing's on the Wall." Despite a slightly flawed song selection, Troiano's production and overall musicianship are consistently in top form, and the disc packaging is immaculate. Bottom line, it's just good music, and I'd highly recommend this disc to anyone who seeks an enjoyable listening experience." Pure Taste and Soul Douglas D. Dandeno | Hanmer, Ontario Canada | 11/05/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "This Cd captures a wonderful overview of the career of one of Canada's finest guitarist's and composers.
There is not a weak track on this cd that dates back to the late 60s. The production is clean and clear and on all cut there is inspired playing. If your a fan of the world's great guitar players then this is a must hear CD." |
