CD Reviews

A great synth-pop/industrial rarity
Laury B. | Canada | 02/12/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Among the constellation of musical acts that go unnoticed in spite of an obvious talent stands one band with a unique sound : Dissonance. This first album, released in 1997, is a brilliant blend of industrial, dance and synth-pop, which comes as no surprise when you learn that the producer is none other than Paul Robb of Information Society fame, a man who knows synth-pop and dance like the back of his hand. But I believe that Dissonance's magic lies in Cat Hall's vocals, which could be described as the female equivalent of NIN's Trent Reznor. With her haunting, deep voice that translates desperation like no other and her brilliant lyrics, Cat Hall is truly a force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, Dissonance never enjoyed fame the way their producer did with InSoc, in spite of two great albums (Reincarnate, released in 2001, is definitely worth checking out). But you know what? Maybe that's a good thing because this way, Dissonance remains an underground band whose rough and genuine sound will never be tamed by the music industry's bigwigs."
Gothic, danceable, and emotional!!!

"Dissonance is one of the best new goth bands to come out of the music industry in a long time. The blending of haunting vocals, danceable electronica, and gothic textures make their music some of the most innovative and emotional ever to be recorded. No track really stands out...not because they all sound the same. They don't. It's just that each song is so excellent, with an ambience that makes it easy to listen to, and yet it is a very driving sound! If you like techno industrial goth electronica, this is the band for you! Get this album!"
