Synopsis

Album Description
The original trio's debut release received mention in the 2000 Earshot Jazz magazine's critics poll as taking "experimental jazz and wringing the psychedelic essence out of it." Formed in 1999, Disjunkt is the musical collaboration between celebrated saxophonist Dan Blunck (Dan Blunck & Co-Conspirators, Tony Grasso Saxophone 4tet, Obrador) experimental guitarist Rik Wright (Jackhammer Trio, Awkward Star, Resonants), jazz drummer Simon Grant (Jackhammer Trio, Scream Radio) and whomever else they ask along for the ride. Since then they've stunned audiences with their own double-quilted monster brand of acoustic and electronic free jazz. Their collaboration is immediately recognizable, with Blunck responding to Wright's bizarre and yet lyrically textural digital loops and guitar antics, while Grant supports them both with a mixture of electronic samples, hand percussion, and acoustic drums. In March of 2000, Disjunkt recorded this performance, originally broadcast on Doug Haire's Sonarchy Radio program. On it the Disjunkt collective play a myriad of instruments including soprano and tenor saxophones, reed trumpet, bamboo flutes, tamborine, crow call, guitar, drums, electronic and acoustic percussion, analog and digital loops, assorted plastic items and metal toys.
