An Indie music fan's must-have

"Dipstick's debut CD was a crazy and fun(and like some reviews have said, scary) mix of electronic music, retro 50's instrumentals and whacked out latin grooves that was my #1 road trip disc for all of 2001.
On "Don't Rewind", Dipstick remixes a bevy of indie heavyweights, including Calexico, Barbara Manning, Rocket from the Crypt, Friends of Dean Martinez... and others---amazingly, they all come out sounding like Dipstick, even the vocal tracks. If you buy this and haven't heard the originals of these remixes, you may want to seek them out--the transformation Dipstick puts these songs through is remarkable. Calexico's "Stinging Nettle", originally a somber cello and vibes affair from their first album, becomes a latin groove/electronic glitch piece, but the somber tones of the cellos still snake in and out and the vibes play a whole new melody. Rocket from the Crypt's searing, odd time signature "Carne Voodoo", is reinvented here with tribal drums right out of a 50's Zombie B-movie, with tortured screeches extracted from the original. There's alot more on here including a few original collaborations with legendary Daevid Allen from Gong, remixes of some indie up and comers, and a previously unreleased track or two that all get the same treatment--it's all good--full of surprises and like nothing else out there."
