Quick-Change Gems for Art-Rock Lovers

(4 out of 5 stars)

"Filled with short, powerful little ditties, this is the perfect album to sit along side your Naked City, God is My Co-Pilot and Mr. Bungle releases. Suitably, Dim Sum Clip Job is a band composed of well-known Downtown rockers Laura Cromwell, Chris Cochrane and Kenny Wolleson--and is produced by avant-auteur, John Zorn himself. Shrouded in a punk aesthetic, this album nonetheless manages to overcome the "power-chord" simplicity of the genre and opts instead for a conceptual approach to rock. Quoting freely from the tropes of surf, thrash, Japanese-noise and prog, this album raises the bar of art-rock to ecstatic levels. The highlight of the album, as well as the most challenging track, is a four-minute sound-collage of breaking glass that conjures up images of a football-riot looting spree. Take out your agression with a few listens of this."
