CD Reviews

A darkly shimmering star in German rock sky
R., Markus | 07/19/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

""Die Ärzte" is the self-titled third album of the German fun-punk band, released in 1986. It's darker than its precedessors, the songs' themes reaching from love in its many forms ("Für immer" deals with necrophilia, but in a very poetical manner) to vampires ("Mysteryland" or "Wir werden schön"). My favourite songs are "Zum letzten Mal" (in which a girl is being chopped up with a chainsaw for having humiliated her boyfriend) and the crazy "Ich bin reich" (an ironic view on a rockstar's life - living in a castle of gold etc.). As we get to know reading the booklet, the band have been influenced by horror movies recording this album, the names "Herschell Gordon Lewis" and "Tobe Hooper" being mentioned, so you know what you're in for. In Germany, this album has been put on the index half a year after its issue (i.e. you won't be able to buy it freely unless you are 18), because of the song "Geschwisterliebe" (when listening you'll understand why). If you love rock music with a slightly gothic touch, "Die Ärzte" will be a darkly shimmering gem in your record collection."
Anything put out by Die Aerzte is "einfach geil!"

"The truth is, I haven't heard this album, because I never even knew that DA put out anything in the states. I'm an American who went to germany as an exchange student for a year, and these guys made my experience so much better! I would do anything for them--I own four of their albums, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who likes energetic, rockin' music that comes from the heart of Germany--BERLIN!!!!!! -Grant"

"I don't know if I have this EXACT album. But I have one of theirs. I was in Germany almost a year ago (next week it'll be a year...) I wanted to buy a random CD and I saw a video from them on the German MTV. So I bought it and they rock! Sehr gut!!"
