CD ReviewsLo-fi masterpiece by the guiding light of the Flat Duo Jets Elmer Sigmon | 09/11/2003 (5 out of 5 stars) "Like Brian Wilson's SMILE LP (Beach Boys) and Skip Spence' OAR LP(formerly Moby Grape), Dexter Romweber made his name in a truly groundbreaking band, then went his own way and released something so primal, so personal, so odd and intense that it immediately occupied a niche of its own apart from everything else. This album is unlike almost anything else released in the 1990s - a wildly diverse mix of tunes and pieces of songs, all of them bursting with Dexter's ragged, soulful crooning and brilliant guitar playing (not to mention piano and organ). Many tracks were recorded in his mother's bathroom! Dexter's world of "folk songs" could be subtitled 'Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music Vol. 5' - but don't let the words "folk songs" fool you - Dexter is first and foremost a rock and roll man, and this set burns with that spirit throughout."
