Displays the gamut of clavichord sound; beautifully miked

"Clavichord: (def) "the most beautiful instrument you've never heard." This common definition is doubly true with CDs, because the clavichord is an extremely difficult instrument to record; the microphones almost never hear the same thing as the performer's ears. This CD is an exception -- it is extremely well recorded, giving the listener access to a sound usually heard only by performers and close friends.The works on this CD are played on appropriate instruments -- a pairwise-fretted clavichord for the Buxtehude, Kuhnau, Türk and Hässler, and a chromatic (unfretted) clavichord for the Müthel and Friedeman Bach. I recommend this CD highly, and have purchased a number of copies myself as gifts for friends."
