Peace of mine
The Straw Man | Aloof October on April's Birthday | 07/27/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I have to say that this was the one song from Depeche Mode's "Sounds Of The Universe" album that took a really long time to grow on me. I think because this song is very different from anything that DM has released before. This tune might have fit very well on "Speak & Spell (Deluxe Edition CD+DVD)". "Peace" is very jubilant and upbeat, it almost sounds like a Pet Shop Boys or Erasure song. Most of us know that Vince Clark was a founding member of DM and ended up forming Erasure, so that makes for an interesting conduit. Nonetheless, this is a classic DM tune that will only get better as time passes.

This single offers only two tracks, the single version of "Peace" and the SixToes version. The former is a little different from the album version, but not much. The SixToes version has acoustic/strings vibe going on, which promotes a slower and almost sullen adaptation of a tune that's original form is jovial. SixToes also did a remix for "Jezebel" on the "Sounds of the Universe Deluxe Box Set (3 CDs/DVD/2 Books)", many similarities on that mix and the one on this CD.

The price is a bit hefty for two songs, especially when you take into consideration that the CD itself is packaged in cardboard. Nevertheless, die hard DM fans will be pleased to have this little gem.
