CD Reviews

The Best of Hawaiian Falsetto!
09/07/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"As a new student of Hula, I have been listening to lots of Hawaiian music, and learned about Dennis Pavao in his earlier recordings with Hui Ohana. In my humble opinion, Dennis is the king of Hawaiian falsetto. He sings with soul and emotion. Na Mele Nenoheno means "most cherished songs" in Hawaiian, and the songs chosen for this album are very special indeed. You won't regret buying this album."

"One cd that has given me years of pleasure, this is a wonderful collection of Na Mele Henoheno, cherished songs, from other albums. If you want one cd to give a great representation of this man's considerable gifts, this is the one. Dennis will be missed but not forgotten, creating some of the best falsetto I've ever heard. This music is fundamental and essential to any Hawaiian collection.

Another Great Pavao CD !!

"I bought this CD several yrs ago because of how much I liked all my other Pavao CDs. Although it's "close," (his other CDs are really GREAT), I think this is his best all-round album, and the one CD of my entire collection that I'd like to have with me if I'm ever stranded on a desert island. Every track is a 'winner,' and his rendition of 'Alekoki' will bring tears to your eyes. (It does to mine, every time I listen to it.) We lost an incredible talent in Jan '02, when Dennis succumbed to a brain aneurism, at the early age of 51, as I recall. I've never heard a voice more pure than Dennis' and I am grateful that I discovered him when I did. If you love the Islands as much as I, get this album as soon as you can. You owe it to yourself to do so. Aloha and mahalo to all. MCW"
