Synopsis

Album Description
Safe Away includes fan favorites such as Â"Los AngelesÂ" and Â"StevenÂ". Meant as a gift for friends and family (and recorded when Witmer was a mere nineteen years old), Safe Away went unpublicizedÂ?though it soon caught on publicly, and it serves as starting point to WitmerÂ?s career. In WitmerÂ?s own words: Â"Its exciting for me to see these songs as Â?newÂ? again in the public eye. Although it seems bizarre for me to release songs this old, IÂ?m going to embrace the age-old proverb, Â?sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwardÂ?Â".

Are You A Sleeper? is the tie-in to WitmerÂ?s 2005 album, Are You a Dreamer?. It was recorded in the dead of winter, in just over 24 hours, at Mission Hall Studio, just outside of Lund, Sweden. The Sleeper? EP features two previously unreleased songs, three Â"sleepyÂ" versions of songs that appeared on Are You A Dreamer? (Sub Pop recording artist Rosie Thomas guest vocals on Â"Castle And CathedralÂ"), as well as 3 live tracks from a recent Witmer show at WXPN World Café Live in Philadelphia, PA.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of Denison's music for over 2 years now. It seems everytime I listen to one of his albums it slows time down for a time or transports me to a certain place or time. With "Safe Away" it's no exception. This re-release of Denison's first album, from 1996, is a portal to the beginning of an incredible career. His songs inherit so much integrity the more listens you give them. The bonus CD that comes with this disc is worth the purchase for sure. Rosie Thomas singing lead vocals on "Castle and Cathedral" is just spectacular. As well as the re-writing of "Are You a Dreamer?" into a even sleepier version called "Are You a Sleeper?" Beautiful."
