CD Reviews

Great southern soul belter
chasmusic | Ottawa, Ontario Canada | 03/21/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"One of the few older southern soul singers still recording, and when you listen to her you will understand why. This woman is a powerhouse, not only does she pen most of her songs, but her delivery is steeped in blues, r&b and Stax soul. She has a few of her signature in your face sassy soul numbers of no good men, and those who, shall we say, do not deliver the goods. But also sensitive ballads like Child of the Ghetto. Lasalle has a strong, husky voice without any of the histrionics of some contemporary soul singers. For those who like retro soul why not try the real thing."
Denise Lasalle Rocks

"I love this CD. I have many/most of Denise Lasalle's CDs and albums and this is by far my favorite. All of the cuts are slamming on this CD, but my favorite is "It Ain't Over 'Til the Fat Lady Sings." Denise rocks the house on that one! I highly recommend this CD."

"....and ditto on the Smoking, too.If you ain't blues grooving with "Right Side of the Wrong Bed" (With Fred) and "...1-800-Get-Some" by Lady LaSalle, then you are missing two of the greatest treats ever. Also Denise does an awesome cover of Tyrone Davis' "A Woman Needs Love". Get Some of this, now."
