CD Reviews

A nice mix of indie rock flare with old school soul
Paul Caiozzo | Atlanta, GA United States | 01/20/1999
(4 out of 5 stars)

"After seeing the Delta 72 live at Maxwell's in Hoboken, New Jersey, I decided to pick up a copy of their latest release. I found it to be a sucessfull hybrid of soul and indie rock. It envokes a return to black music before it was pushed aside in favor of rock and pop. This album pays homage to the roots of all music, early blues, jazz and soul while still paving its own very different ground. The recording style is sparse adding a very raw feel, complimenting the Indie rock side of Delta 72. The album works well as a cohesive unit, leaving no instant toss away songs. Songs to note are Monopoly of your Mouth and Scratch. My only complaint, is the repetitivness of the album. Some songs sound very similiar to each other. If your interested in hearing a band that is doing something different instead of churning out mass market bubble pop or three chord brat punk, give Soul of a New Machine a try."

"I was lucky enough to see The Delta 72 in Harrisonburg, VA a while back - and let me tell you, their live show is something no one should miss. "Soul Of A New Machine" captures their live show as best can be done I believe. It is powerful and reckless, with great drum beats and wild but indesipherable lyrics. I recommend this album to all rock fans."

"This CD gives you what you want to hear: It combines a new rythem, and style with flare. I would recommend it to anybody, and think they're one of the greatest bands around."
