CD Reviews

Good Hip Hop Beats with a Funky Downtempo flavor
Glitch Addiction | Humboldt County | 02/08/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I just picked this up (things are a lot slower here) and was blown away by this album. I liked it better than most of the downtempo house which has somehow dominated the trip hop music scene lately. While this album has much more emphasis on hip hop beats it fits somewhere into the category with all of the breakthrough ambient/acid jazz. Recent noteworthy contributions to the chillout music scene have come from drum 'n' bass and dub infuenced styles like Sub Dub and the other illbient artists, as well as the well known ambient/downtempo house from D.C., Canada, Austria etc. This album would appeal to fans of Nightmares on Wax or Thievery Corp. It's deep groovy beats make it more dance oriented than the dangerously laid back contemporaries. This albums tight construction and turntablist sound are sure to please the hip hop heads while still moving the crowd. It is a great introduction to dance music for the stubborn rap listener since the music is so good and it doesn't push too far beyond funky bass-driven, blunted beats."
