"From the first notes of "Les Peuilles Mortes" ("The Falling Leaves") to this CD's 14th tune, "La Vie En Rose," Deborah Latz has put together an enchanting second album. But don't think this is a collecton of pleasant melodies sung in French. It's far more than that. Deborah varies the tempo, volume and language as she handles familiar tunes from "Witchcraft" to "Make Someone Happy" to "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" to the Billie Holiday favorite,"Don't Explain." After hearing the opening cut, which features tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm, I wondered how she could top it. But she did. Deborah's singing of "My Favorite Things" is in the same class as John Coltrane's instrumental version of the same composition. I hadn't heard this lady until I played "Lifeline," but I'm now an ardent fan. I'm going to track down her first CD to add to my collection, and I hope Deborah will be issuing more albums in the years to come. Meanwhile, I highly recommend this CD, which is on the June Moon label."
