CD Reviews

Decent but not great

(3 out of 5 stars)

"Of course, fans of Dissection, or rather, Dissection freaks (like myself), might want to check this album out to see a different side of Jon Nodtveidt, but be forewarned: this is totally unlike the stuff that he's done with Dissection. There are no guitars on here, and it's mostly just evil techno music.
For those who can stomach this type of music, this is an interesting album none the less. I don't know a whole lot about techno (I mostly enjoy metal, but I really dig electronic stuff like Tangerine Dream too), so I can't really say it is good or bad. "Ave Satan" is kind of fun to listen to when you're drinking with some friends, because it's just basically evil techno stuff. "Sign of the Dark" features some clean vocals as well as the usual techno sound. It's kind of funny to hear Jon singing this way, but it really proves that this guy's a pretty diverse musician, and on top of that, he sounds pretty good, actually. There are some other tracks which are just keyboard intros and such, and they're pretty interesting too. The only problem I really have with this is that the drums are kind of far in the background. I would just love to get some crazy Euro people over to my place, throw this album on and watch them start dancing and then freak out when they hear Jon chanting "Ave Satan! Ave Satan!"
All in all, worth checking out for the price it's going for from the used CD places, but I sure wouldn't pay full price for it."
