ARTISTIC VICTORY FOR DAVID KNOPFLER
Peyman Moazami | Tehran, IRAN | 10/26/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"The Giver is David Knopfler's 5the release as a solo artist. Released in 1993 following 1991's over-the-top "Lifelines", this is the beginning of a new challenge for David Knopfler. Shifting gears for Acoustic this time, his first collaboration with producer Harry Bagdanovs is truly a materpiece of its own kind. Starting with "Mercy With the Wine", the album is there to thrill you from the very beginning. Knopfler's vocal is back to its best shape and lyrics are as strong as ever. Another standout track is "Domino". The song (timing more than 7 min.) is a showcase for Knopfler's thrilling sonwriting perfection. It starts with a quiet arrangement and reaches to the summit by addition of background vocals and fusing Electrical guitar blended magically with Acoustic Guitar by David. "How many Times" shows David in a bluesy style and soaring Vocal style. "Father And A Son" and "The Giver of Gifts" are quite magnificent. This is a different album for David and first in a series of thress standout albums being this one, "Small Mercies" and "Wishbones" (What I Call Timeless Trilogy). The melodies and lyrics are there to surprise the listener and musicanship is a true work of art. For those who are looking for something similar to his "Lifelines", this CD maybe surprising because it is a 100% U-turn but they won't be disappointed because they have owned an invaluable artwork. David Knopfler shines brighter than ever on this CD. Thank you David. I Love You."
The CD that will never leave your stereo!

"Oh how under-rated a musician and performer is David Knopfler! Compelling lyrics, textured music and a distinct lack of anything insincere or synthetic. The best kept secret of the folk/rock world. Then again, given how directly this album hits you, its no wonder we haven't heard much from him on the commercial front. So far, I've bought four copies...friends have loved this cd as much as I have!"
