Synopsis

Album Description
Break It To The Cowboy, the title song, tells of a tale of a rodeo cowboy who had his share of broken bones and broken hearts. 'Montana Out In The Cold' tells how the texas longhorns had to cope with the harsh Montana winters. 'The Duke' is a tribute to the greatest movie star of all times John Wayne. 'Saturday Night In A Cowboy Town' tells the story of how even the smallest town comes alive when the rodeo comes to town. John David still has his first guitar. It's an old beat up martin D-28 that he still play everyday. He felt he should write a song about 'my ol' guitar' this old companion that shared so much of his life. Back in the 60's, David John and his brother Rich along with two other band members loaded up their 55 Cadillac limo and started a road trip from the East coast to California. On the old route 66. he wrote 'Rolling Down Route 66' as a tribute to that old highway. 'Rollin' Like A Tumbleweed Through Texas' is a great Western swing song in the spirit of Bob Wills with its twin fiddles, and steel guitar. 'Santa Anna Wind' tells about the devastation of the terrible wind fires that occur in the South West. These high wind driven fires can destroy everything that people have worked for in their life times. 'Once In A Bluegrass Moon' is a romantic Bluegrass song. It's about a first time love affair at a Bluegrass festival. 'Rocky Mountian Railroad Blues' is a hard driving Bluegrass train song. 'Mississippi River Queen' is a Dixieland song about riverboat gamblers and southern bells on the big muddy. Also in the mix are Tree Standards, Marty Robbins's 'Big Iron', Merle Travis's 'Sixteen Ton', and by the request of our fans, Chubby wise's 'Orange Blossom Special'.

These Guys Are Great

(5 out of 5 stars)

"David John and the Comstock Cowboys are the modern day Sons of the Pioneers. This CD is great as are others from them. I saw them live in Gardnerville, Nevada last week and they are true crowd pleasers. They can be seen often at the Bucket of Blood saloon in historic Virginia City, Nevada."
