AMAZING CONCERTOS

"David Chesky Concertos are a new breakthrough for American compositions. It is not derivative of any other American compositional schools. The music is refreshing , interesting, and still demanding on the listener as well. It blends classical, jazz, latin, and world music rhythms into a new form.

The harmonic language is influenced by Messian and Stravinsky. But it is not so much the harmony, it is what the composer does with it. The complicated and intoxicating rhythms reflect contemporary American urban life.

Tom Chiu the violinist of the Flux quarter is amazing in this tour de force Violin concerto. Jeffrey Khaner the principal flutist of the Philadelphia orchestra is marvelous at playing the very hard runs of the Chesky Flute concerto. These concertos would be a welcome to the concerto repertoire, but seem extremely difficult to play.

As sophisticated as this music is it is still yet very accessible. Chesky has much greater orchestration skills than the modern minimalists that are well known today. I find this music not to be contrived as I find in so much contemporary composition.I have enjoyed repeated listening to this. If we want to get more people back into the concert halls, they should be performing the Chesky Concertos.
