""This Side Up" is a technically brilliant album from 1986, made all the more so by the fact that the entire thing was recorded digitally to 2-track, with no mixing or overdubs. There is a LOT going on in some of these arrangements, ("Beach Trails", for example), but the interplay between strings, piano, rhythm section, etc, is crystal clear. Hard to believe it was actually recorded this way. Buyer beware: there is more than one release of this out-of-print CD floating around. Some copies have only 8 tracks on them, but the full-length version should have a 9th piano-solo track, entitled "Landscapes", which clocks in at 7:43. Make sure you're getting the complete recording before you order it from a third-party seller."
