The Evolution of Dave
Mr. Mojo | 11/22/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have purchased all 3 of Dave's albums and it is amazing to see how his musical abilities and growth in styles has evolved. At 19 he was a Blues guy but not the usual Stevie Ray clone as he already had his own style. Now, at the ripe old age of 23, his style has grown into a stew that includes a dash of Stevie, but also incorporates generous helpings of Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, T-Bone Walker and many other seminal roots players. The result is a style that is unlike anyone else's on the music scene today and incorporates the ability to play just about any genre of roots music from Mississippi delta blues to swing to rock to jazz to you name it. Dave's new CD is an absolute triumph on a variety of levels. As always, his guitar chops are impeccable and among the best anywhere. His song selection is diverse and showcases his ability to excel in just about any musical form. The songs he has composed are interesting and mature beyond his years. His marvelous voice can morph from a roughed-up blues to almost crooner-like. As a producer and arranger this CD introduces us to a whole new range of his seemingly unending talents. If this is not the album of the year, it's certainly in the conversation. I can't wait for Dave's next album."
Dave's New Genre, "SWING" sans the guitar jams..

"I have both of dave's prior discs and love the guy enough that I bought this before hearing any "bytes" first. The song title "I was born in the 20's" says it all about this new direction for dave's change in Genre. This disc has lots & lots of horns but very little guitar.ever hear "Squirell Nut Zippers? thats who this sounds like..to my taste thats ok as a novelty but not what I,m looking to purchase..What guitar jams there are is held to maybe 20-30 second bits,if any at all.!!Disappointing to me.. but this disc does have some of the dirtiest sounding horns I've ever heard. Kudos there ,if you dig that, you may really love this disc..but if you're lookin' for the type of music dave did in the past, You'll not find it here.! ! !"
