Synopsis

Album Description
Purpose's latest includes stunning musical contributions from friends Dave Carter & Tracy Grammer, two songs co-written with Ellis Paul, and a vocal/strings arrangement performed by members of the Turtle Island String Quartet. His cast of largely nameless wanderers and fate-tempters now expands to include a mostly-forgotten president (California), a haunted veteran ( Late for Dinner) and a disaffected Angelino (A Crooked Line).

CD Reviews

Possibly his best album yet

"Darryl, is one of the great rising stars of Folk Singer/Songwriters. He has a way with a melody and a story that makes you wish you could touch other peoples lives the same way he touches yours. Darryl has been quoted saying that this is "the album I always wanted to make." Favorites are "California", "A Crooked Line" "Bryant Street", & "I Lost a Day to the Rain." He has four CD's out now, and if you have to start at the end that's okay. However, once you start buying "DP", you'll want them all."
One of the Best CD's This Year! All-Around Outstanding!

""A Crooked Line" is one of best CDs to come out in a long, long, LONG time. It's one of those amazing "complete" CDs- every song is worth listening to and is placed on the CD in such a way that all the songs are balanced and enhance the next song that comes after it. From the first notes of "California," you know you are onto something wonderful. Darryl Purpose has the unique gift of being a singer-songwriter whose supreme strengths lie in his ability to tell an interesting, compelling story or a way of feeling, sing it beautifully while adding an incredible but almost understated guitar accompaniment. It's hard to pick a few songs that stand out, since they all do, although of special note is the aforementioned exquisite "California," "A Crooked Line" which brings out the flavor of Los Angeles like no recent song in memory has done so well, "Late for Dinner" which causes you to think about what you might do if someone who abandoned you came back into your life, and the toe-tapping Dave Carter tune, "The River, Where She Sleeps." The most poignant and heart-wrenching song on the CD, "Bryant Street," speaks of grief, "what-if's," and the hope of healing and connection beyond years, death and opportunity. Add the talents of Daryl S., Ellis Paul, Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer and you have a CD that is by no means "crooked"- it is outstanding straight down the line."
