CD Reviews

Rollin' 4 Deep.
Bryant Ward | L.P., Washington | 12/20/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Very tight album, one of the many many releases put out by the Familia. A revolution started when "G.U.N." was released, and scrap-rap was done with. I'd heard of the Darkroom vets from some Norteno homies but could never find their CDs in the average record store. Just one look on Amazon and several of their releases were right at my finger tips. I ordered this CD first(it was the cheapest, due to low supply and high demand these records aren't the easiest to find.) Aside from downloaded tracks(Norte Boogie, I Can Kill A Scrap and other puro classics), I'd never heard anything else by D.R.F.(Make note of the initials!)

The album starts off hard with "Darkroom Vets", with one of the dopest beats the Familia has put out. "Darkroom Vets. Ain't nothin' but a darkroom thang." This is one of the best tracks to represent the North Side.

"U.N." has a filthy beat as well, and some hard spits by Oso, Unknown, K.I.D., D-Roll and the rest of the fam. Of the whole album, "Darkroom Vets" and "U.N." are at the top of the game.

This album was dedicated to Sir Dyno, who was incarcerated at the time and is now resting in peace. Its horrible to know that some of Dyno's last years were spent in a federal prison instead of at home with his family and making music. While their music isn't all about peace, at least the Vets got to shine with their passion of music. Hopefully, we'll hear an album from the Fam soon. As of now, however, the Familia is defunct. Solo albums from most members are available, and if you can find them snatch them up.
