Stays True to Pink Floyd and the A cappella form
Lee Hildebrand | Nashville TN | 04/12/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Many who own "Dark Side of the Moon" have committed each note to memory. These are the fans who will get the most out of this recording. Anyone could listen to the a capella version and be impressed by the professional performance, but only a devoted fan of the origional recording will appreciate the new life given by the a capella version.

Whenever I come across a "new form" cover of a classic song, I put it to the necessity acid test by asking "does this version add anything to the origional recording" and the answer here is a resounding 'yes'.

The seminal recording of musique concrète by Pink Floyd contains many sounds and noises that may cause fans to wonder how they could be recreated using voices. The performers on the album to an amazing job of recreating each noise authentically, sometimes revealing the importance of a certain song element that I had missed after listening to the origional recording 100 times.

Lovers of a capella form will find some of the best examples available of creative use of voices and mouthes to create space, rhythm, and ambience.

I have played the origional and a capella version of each song back to back, and with each song I have been impressed by the novel and revelatory nature of the a capella recording.

The producers and arragers were obviously Pink Floyd fans. This is not a commercial effort that strays in any way for the heart of the music for the sake of accessability (although the quality is top-notch). Rather, it is an artistic endeavor that entirely reaches its goal of both honoring and recreating a classic work.

Those unfamiliar with the origional recording will be best served to give the origional multiple listenings before taking on the a capella version. Those who can recite the origional recording will find the songs all over again in this five-star effort."
