CD Reviews

God = Elfman
Jose Ernesto Caero | Alexandria, VA United States | 10/25/2004

"Probably on of the deepest, well thought out, most colabortating with the movie it follows soundtrack I have ever heard. Starting with the opening, the complex variations on the same theme illustrate feelings, moods, and characters from the very beginning. Elfman, gives each character a theme, each so highly representing each character you can actually see the movie blindly. The Penguin owns the pizzicato playing of the strings and guitar like strokes of the orchestra, the Catwoman recieves the high pitched strings along with some bass strings and batman, of course recieves his theme composed of brass, strings and drums. Through out the soundtrack, the most developed movements are probably Birth of the Penguin, which includes the chorus which greatly represents a dark christmas, Cat Suite, which illustrates the feline so perfectly along withe Selina transforms. Capturing the Circus especially in Batman vs. the Circus and in Rooftops, is a dark hellish scene of excitement. The Children's Hour/Final Confrontation is probably the most climactic piece of music for the movie. Elfman, really captures death and sorrow quite perfectly, in the cemetary, which actualy embodies how penguin actually feels, which is very much indifference and joy as the theme which develops from a tragic theme to a holding-your-face-up-in-the-air-in-a-proud-way tone, as well as the Finale. I have studied this soundtrack for a composition class and found the vast intricacies that make this soundtrack overpower all his other works."
Danny Elfman's best score

"The legendary music of Danny Elfman's scores is best exemplified in this dark and beautiful pieced together score. The mood of the film is made only more potently haunting with this music as a guide. It strikes you in the face with tracks like "Birth of a Penguin", while then calming your nerves (sort of) with "Selena Transforms", not to mention the classic Tim Burton-style circus music in "Batman vs. the Circus." But he overdoes himself with what may be the best music from any music score in "The Final Confrontation." If you love Elfman, Burton, and great music, this is an essential soundtrack to behold."
EXCELLENT! Danny Elfman is the man!

"Danny Elfman, at this point in time, is the only person capable of scoring Batman. The dark tones and the chorus make this soundtrack as remarkable as the movie of Batman Returns.If you want a great soundtrack, get this right away! Don't bother with Elliot Goldenthal's garbage of Batman Forever. He is nowhere near as good as Elfman"
