CD Reviews

What are the RECORD EXECS thinking???

"I was fortunate to find "portable life" in a clearance section in LA after searching for it for the past 2 years. I was angered to find that the cd release was cancelled, but I knew by the grace of God I would finally find it. And it Great!!!
Continuing where "arrive all over you" left...the record deals with anger, love, betrayal, loss...and her voice soars over all the melodies making them even more intoxicating. Big thumbs up for "I've had it" and the remake of "missed the train". All of the things you loved about "arrive all over you" are here. Don't be worried....and it's just as beautiful and heartfelt...if not more so...keep searching for this cd...it's definately a must have...my wishes go out to you..."
Why Did They Cancel This Release???

I just noticed today that she finally DID release this album 9 years after I got a copy of the promo! And 7.5 years after I wrote my original review. That's great news!

===============================================

Danielle is the little girl we all remember from All In The Family and Archies Place years ago. She's all grown up, now, making terrific music, whether it be her solo projects, or as part of New Radicals.

A few years ago, she released a very formidable solo debut - Arrive All Over You. But this only hinted at what we could expect from her follow up - Portable Life. Unfortunately, RCA cancelled the album before its official release! Why? I wish I knew.

Pre-release copies of this album has been floating around eBay for several months. Thankfully, I was able to download the entire thing from Napster. Of course, if the CD was to be released tomorrow, I'd purchase it in a second. It is worth it, and more. It has been one of my favorite albums over the past year.

From the driving "I've Had It", you can tell how much passion she puts into her performance. It doesn't let up at all. Danielle holds nothing back. If you've seen the "Where Are They Now" series on VH1, you may have caught snippets of this, and other songs. It was this show that got me into her music.

I truly hope this album gets to see the light of day, one day, and I hope she never gives up."
Get it if you can find it!

"If you like her first album and you loved the New Radicals then if you can find this CD, buy it. This CD is a great follow-up to her first solo effort. It took me almost two years to find it but was well worth the effort and for the price I paid for it. Almost all the songs were written by Danielle and Gregg Alexander so there is a definite New Radicals vibe to the music. I think they write fantastic together, all their songs are so detailed and good storytelling. Danielle's music reminds me a lot of a female John Meyer, which you can take or leave, but I happen to be a big fan of his music too. All the tracks are good, The best tracks being "I've Had It", "Temporary Like the Rain" and the new version of her "Just Missed the Train". The version on her first CD was more raw and haunting, but this new version after being tweaked in the studio, I think sounds better and more mature. This is one of those CD's that you can listen to all the way through without skipping tracks, it's that good. The only reason I'm giving it four out of five instead of the full five is because the last track sounds like something Celine Dion would have recorded. In Danielle's defense it is one of the tracks not written by her or Gregg.

Hopefully RCA will release this CD one day or another label will take a chance and release her music. If you can get it you won't be disappointed!"
