CD Reviews

Classy stuff

"Judging from the "customers also bought..." listings here on Amazon, those who appreciate Dane Donohue also like Stephen Bishop, Ned Doheny, David Roberts and Terence Boylan, which helps tell you where Donohue is coming from on this album. The nearest comparison is David Roberts, as Donohue is more uptempo than Boylan or Bishop.

This is a classy, crisp rock album which, for reasons that I cannot understand, didn't get the exposure that it deserved. In truth, I wouldn't have encountered it myself but for a tip from a friend in the music business.

'Casablanca' and 'Dance with a Stranger' are outstanding, but there isn't a weak track on the album. Contributing musicians include Jai Winding, Victor Feldman, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, J.D. Souther, Larry Carlton, Herb Pedersen, Jay Graydon, Bill Champlin, Steve Lukather, Tom Kelly...the list goes on. This under-recognised album from 1978 is a class act."
A class act indeed

"Have to agree with Friendlycard in his August 2008 review. This is one of the best of the great West-Coast AOR albums that were being churned out by some great singer songwriters in the late 1970s. As noted in the other review, file alongside Ned Doheny, Terence Boylan, David Roberts etc. Nearly every song on this album is a gem, great lyrics and wonderful tunes and how on earth did some of these relatively unknown artists manage to get absolutely stellar session musicians to back them - on this one are Larry Carlton, Jai Winding, Victor Feldman, Herb Pedersen, Ernie Watts etc. Very few CDs 30 years later have such quality and beautifully recorded. This one was produced by Terence Boylan. Where are all these guys now - surely the creative juices did not stop flowing after only one or two albums. You should have this album in your collection as an example of top quality pop music - exquisite!"
