CD Reviews

A bonus for fans, but it could have been so much more...

"If you don't already own the prior releases from Damnation, then you should definitely start with those. They are Misericordia, No More Dreams of Happy Endings, and Kingdom of Lost Souls. I would even suggest that you listen in that order, but it's your choice.

This particular album doesn't quite live up to the hype in my opinion. The sound quality is the best it's ever been for a Damnation album. The vocals are pretty much deliver what fans would hope for. But the songs seem to run together, with less contrast than in previous albums. I know it's been 8 years since their last record, and there appears to be some member changes (a guitar player named Hilel). They do throw in a few older songs from that period that have been re-recorded and polished, which is great for any new fans that pick this up. There is also a song that includes guest vocals from the singer of Fall Out Boy, which may turn off fans of the hardcore genre, however it gets a little more tolerable with each listen.

I know I shouldn't compare it so much to their earlier work but, as a huge fan, I couldn't help but to have certain expectations. It stands alone as a solid hardcore album, but it could have been so much more interesting if they stepped out of the box a little bit, which is why I liked them in the first place.

"true the sound of Damnation A.D. has changed a bit but naysayers will be proven wrong no matter what they say...so you ask has Damnation A.D. changed for the better? Well...lets just say they pretty much keep the old sound while adding something new here and there.

Hehe so in short dont listen to M. Gibb"
