CD Reviews

Great Single
Scott Tsukamoto | Henderson, NV USA | 11/07/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"DJ Sammy had a HUGE hit everywhere with his single "Heaven" (With Yanou & Do), that song was a cover of the Brian Adams classic. He then released his second single "Boys Of Summer" which was another cover (originally by Don Henley). Many people have criticized him because of his use of covers. However, we finally got a domestic release of his original single Sunlight!! Here's a review of each of the ten mixes included:01 Radio Edit - 3:15 - A shorter edit of the album version. The album version was about four minutes, so this is a pretty big edit!! Although it's kinda short it is still a great song. Same as the UK Radio Edit. 9/10
02 Milky Edit - 3:46 - Some may have heard this on the UK edition of Sunlight, however, this is a longer version!! It definitely has a 'Milky' feel to it. Too bad I can't stand Milky's songs :( if you like Milky you'll like this. 6/10
03 Bossa Nova Vibes - 3:19 - This is the slower chill out version of Sunlight. It was included on the album 'Heaven' so nothing new here. 7/10
04 Original - 5:23 - The full length mix of the title track is the definitive version!! Filled with more of the great instrumental breaks and vocals this version is definitely a winner!
05 Milky Remix - 5:57 - Like the Milky Edit... If you like Milky's songs than you'll definitely like this. But again, since I don't really enjoy Milky's style I don't really enjoy this mix. 6/10
06 Martin Eyerer Remix - 9:56 - Long remix, definitely better then the Milky Mix but not quite as good as the original mix... Or some of the other mixes included on this CD Maxi Single. 8/10
07 Driftwood Remix - 7:00 - Similar to the original mix, maybe even a little bit better. Driftwood is known for their awesome remixes though, and this one does not dissapoint!! 9/10
08 Minimalistix Remix - 7:34 - I really wanted to hear this mix, because I loved the Minimalistix Mix of Ian Van Dahl's 'Reason', and like his previous remix, this one is awesome! I always enjoy listening to the piano breaks before blaring of with the synths!! 10/10
09 DJ Shog Remix - 7:47 - I also was highly anticipating this mix! I loved DJ Shog's hit 'This Is My Sound', and I also enjoyed his mixes of Lasgo's 'Alone' and Ian Van Dahl's 'Reason'. And like the Minimalistix Mix this one does not dissapoint! It's similar in stlye to other DJ Shog mixes so most people should enjoy this! 10/10
10 "Boys Of Summer" - Soulside Mix - 3:36 - An acoustic mix of DJ Sammy's last hit. Interesting to listen to, but not really important if you are mainly interested in the club mixes. Still good and has some soul as well :D 8/10Overall, this CD Maxi Single has A LOT of variety to it, 2 slower versions of his hits, the interesting Milky Mixes, plus the five awesome club mixes!! And of course the original radio edit as well. Also, like his last hit "Boys Of Summer", the vocals are by Marie-Jose Va Der Kolk... AKA Loona! So fans of Do (Dominique Van Hulst) may be a bit dissapointed. But for more Do action check out her single with Yanou entitled "On And On"."
