CD Reviews

Build a little crackhouse in your soul.

"How do we love thee, "Mutants of Sound", let us count the ways. Despite the fact that this record is well over three years old, and Acucrack has since remixed it in the form of "The Mutants are Coming...", it's nice to break out this disc for a slice of the halcyon days of techno, before "electronic" became synonymous with "ironic". (Wouldn't want to be near that bandwagon when the wheels fall off...)Most of "Mutants" consists of stomach-churning bass and unexpected layering of rythmns, a breed apart any other artist genuflecting at the altar of breakbeat, be it past or present. Case in point, "Allegra" or "Lust in Space" - veritable smorgasboards of beats and percolation. This is the kind of music that makes you want to upgrade your stereo system. Bass envy, anyone? The more commercially viable moments, such as "Nation State" and "You're Not the Fastest Ship..." no doubt reflect why Acucrack shot to the heights of CMJ's RPM chart and will continue to crack the charts for a long time to come. Whether you've just recently been introduced to Acucrack by their latest single, "So to Speak", or your old copy of "Mutants of Sound" is worn to a nub, there's no reason not to buy this."

"This was my first Dj? Acucrack purchase. I had seen a review of this CD in an old issue of Savage magazine so I decided to purchase it when I saw it on Amazon. I find this album to be interesting because I think that it is capable of satisfying everyone's interest. This CD has a little bit of something for everyone- drum'n'bass, breakbeats, techno, and elements of trance. "Nation-State" is the highlight of this album (10 minutes and 54 seconds of pure electronic bliss). Definitely pick this one up, pop it into your stereo, and play it loud- real loud. I am very hard to please as far as music goes and Mutants of Sound did not disappoint me."
One of the most aluring darkest disc that I own.

"Of all the discs that I own, Mutants Of Sound is one of the top five that I can always call my rescue disc, to pick me up and put me in mood that we all should be in. One of the darkest breakbeat discs that anybody should own. Don't be afraid, try it on for size.If breakbeat techno is up your alley then "DJ? Acucrack" can deliver the goods. Be sure to sample some of the tracks from Amazon.com as I'm sure you won't be disappionted."
