Something Special in a Sea of Mediocrity
D. Waldron | Anchorage, AK | 12/09/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It seems like as hip-hop continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly harder for artists to be different, or stand out in a major way. Most styles and sounds have already been explored, making a lot of new artists sound like copy cats. That's why I was more than pleased when I came across Cyne's album Pretty Dark Things.

These guys immediately appealed to me on several levels. Creative production, sick flows, and astoundingly honest lyrics made me an instant fan. And if that wasn't enough, they sounded 100 percent unique to me (which is really nice when you listen to tons of music). Cyne has the perfect balance between innovation, and catchiness. They are not pretentious, or over-the-top experimental. They are just really talented, and wonderfully different.

If you want hip-hop that stimulates your ears, as well as your cerebrum, you should check Pretty Dark Things out. I just heard it recently, and now I plan on checking out the entire Cyne catalog.

Hopefully, that gives you all the information you need. But if it helps, my favorite emcees/groups are: Del, Mr. Lif, A Tribe Called Quest, and Aesop Rock.
