CD Reviews

(Bad) backing vocalist!
12/06/2001
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Crack the Sky is one of the best rock bands of all time. They should have been superstars. My dream is to see them live. This relatively recent recording has great musicianship, and they mostly seem to concentrate on their greatest songs. And unlike most live albums, where bands drudge their way through exact replica arrangements of their songs, Crack the Sky here improvise quite a lot, and have an excellent horn section guesting and spicing up procedures. That's all great, but somebody doing backing vocals on this is constantly and painfully out of tune. He makes the late Linda Mc sound like she had perfect pitch. Who's the guilty party? Someone who was there should know. You've got to drink a lot of beer before the guilty backing vocalist becomes bearable."
I WAS at the SHOW!

"I not only have the CD; but I was at the concert this CD was recorded at. And I haveta tellya, these guys played their hearts out! Crack the Sky, unlike most bands in their position (playing 1 or 2 gigs a year to the "true believers"), Crack the Sky has only gotten better over the years; especially with the move back to twin lead guitars. If you like Crack The Sky, you should own this CD. If you've never heard Crack the Sky, this would actually be a good place to start, because this is their best music played at their best."
Great band, better live!!!

"Those of you who don't know about CTS, you need to listen up. These guys are fantastic. One of the best live cd's out there. I agree with the other guy about the backup vocals. They are not up to snuff but can be overlooked. John P. is one of the best writers out there. Rick and Bobby play guitars like the old days with Jim playing instead of Bobby. The bass and drums drive the band to new heights. I have all of Crack The Sky material except the newest studio cd and have always loved their music. I have been listening since the start way back when and just can't understand why these guys never made it big. So much better than most of the [stuff] from you have heard in the past and now. Long live Crack The Sky!"
