Synopsis

Album Description
2009 release, a dark and urgent Rock 'n' Roll vision from the singer/songwriter. With Grammy-winning producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, The White Stripes) at the helm, Cory's songs have transformed into lush and nuanced recordings that never sacrifice his emotional vulnerability or his rich and unique vocal tone. The songs on Death Won't Send A Letter were recorded primarily at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, TN with Chisel's backing vocalist/keyboard player Adriel Harris and Little Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather) on initial tracking. Cory, Adriel and Little Jack were then joined by Jack's longtime collaborator Patrick Keeler (The Raconteurs, The Greenhorns) on drums. With Patrick and Jack's driving rhythm section the albums' sound took on a grittier hue. And in Brendan Benson Cory found a writing and arranging partner that birthed the lead album track, 'Born Again'. Carl Broemel from My Morning Jacket and Blake Mills of Band Of Horses fame also contribute on guitar.

"I can't get enough of Corey Chisel's voice. I am in love with this CD and every song on it. "Calm Down" in it's simplicity of chords and his voice captures my soul... I'm hooked and look forward to more from him and amazing talent."

"There is something in these songs by Cory Chisel that draws out a rather surprising emotional response from me. I didn't expect to find my musical nirvana when I downloaded this album, but yep, I was entranced. It's always a joy to find something new and exciting in the music kingdom these days. Rolling Stone magazine had some pretty fantastic things to say about this group.

Born Again and Angel of Mine are my favorite tracks, but each and every one is a gem. The songwriting and musicianship are truly impressive. And the man can SING! The lyrics are sophisticated, but keep close to the world Mr. Chisel inhabits. We are lucky to get to visit that world.

His first EP, Cabin Ghosts, isn't quite as polished but is an excellent introduction to the band. I can't wait for more!!
