Born in London, Constant Lambert (1905-1951) studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Vaughan Williams. He threw in with the Sitwells (authors Edith, Osbert, and Sacheverell) and their circle, which included composer William Walton and ballet impresario Serge Diaghilev.Lambert co-founded the Royal Ballet in 1931, and served as its music director and principal conductor for sixteen years. He composed several notable ballets for the company, two of which are included on this disc.
