CD Reviews

Con-music made public - finally
Michael Thomas Roe | Atlanta | 03/01/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Conrad Schnitzler has recorded over 400 "contempora con-tinuous" works since January 1990. "Trigger Trilogy" contains just three. So if anyone is looking to complete their Con-collection, they have a way to go. That said, the three CD's selected here go a long way in presenting to the listener just what Con has been up to the last couple of years (2005-2006).

Disc One, 00/328 "Skizzo" (December 2005), is a collection of jaunty rhythmics created by drum machines and synth sequencers. Though minimalist at first listen, the detail is revealed in repeated listens. The first track is a clear winner and proves Con can groove with the best.

I've had the pleasure of collecting and collaborating with Con for the last five years and can readily say that the second disc, 00/341 "Wandelconcert" (February 2006) is one of Con's more enjoyable works. The piece runs continuously and flows with nuance and grace. The listener upon completion has the feeling he has witnessed something unique, that he has re-emerged enlightened. Hard to explain, but hardly the cold and metallic music Con is noted for (a tip to completists: seek out 00/242 if you like this one).

Disc Three, 00/345 "Energie" is described as a "con-cert", but is more like a collection of short unrelated tracks, each displaying different sides of Con's arsenal. Very listenable, by Con-standards, and dare I say "commercial"?

Hope this helps some folks to navigate around Con's work. Enjoy."
