Synopsis

Album Description
Concrete Blonde continues their musical ascent with their second album, Free. Just like their debut, this album produced 3 singles "Happy Birthday," "Scene of a Perfect Crime," and "God Is A Bullet," the latter of which was their first big MTV hit & reached the Top 20 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. Superfecta is proud to reissue this album digitally remastered with expanded packaging and, for the first time, lyrics & bonus tracks. Journalist Kevin Couch has compiled new liner notes based on a 2004 interview with Johnette Napolitano and James Mankey in which they discuss the band's early years - a subject that has rarely been documented. Twelve tracks in all, including two bonus tracks: "Free" (ironic that the title track did not make it on the original album); and a cover version of Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing." Both originally appeared on the "God Is A Bullet" 12" Single.

CD Reviews

I'm a million miles high I'm a piece of the sky!
Christopher Vaughn | San Antonio | 07/10/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"It is appropriate that "Free" the always missing title track finally make it's mark on this seminal album. This was the cd that cemented my love for this amazing and always re-inventive band. "Little Wing" is appropriate as well as a lot of this record is very much influenced by Hendrix era blues/rock. Crunchy, melodic, and sometimes funny. Napolitano, Rushakoff, and Mankey make it brilliant. Hooks abound and Johnette's amazingly powerful voice...Do not overlook this gem from 1989."
If you like Outgrabe, you'll love this CD!

"This CD totally reminds me of Outgrabe's "City of God." Concrete Blonde is one of my favorite classic bands. "God is a Bullet" and "Roses Grow" are just heart-stoppers. It's too bad there's not more of this kind of meaningful music happening now. Maybe the rise of bands like Outgrabe can help bring Concrete Blonde out of retirement. I'd love to hear Ms. Napolitano sing "Witching Hour!""
