CD Reviews

The Real Deal
Kirk Abernathy | Philadelphia, Pa United States | 08/07/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is my favorite Confunkshun cd. The instrumental Indian Summer Love is well worth the price of the cd. This is classic mid-tempo r&b with great harmonies, tasty keyboard work and beautiful writing/arranging. I'd also recommend Loveshine (if you can find it) on vinyl. To my taste they became a little slicker and production-heavy in the eighties-still quality material but not as good as these two."
Like an old friend!!

"I had this album when I was growing up. When I recently received this recording from Amazon.com, I listened to the songs and the words just came back to me, like the years just disappeared.

Some of the highlights:

"Ffun" great party jam with a great bassline and horn arrangements.

"Indian Summer Love" beautiful instrumental groove

"Secrets" another mid-tempo groove that is just fun and relaxing to listen to.

"Secrets" is by far ConFunkShun's best project (and that's saying a lot because there were many!)"
Stupendous Smooth Funk Songwriting!

"Con Funk Shun play songs, not grooves.Like their peers
EWF and Heatwave the band have earned something of an honorary
pop pass with "Doowhachawannadoo","Who Has The Time",the tital
song and the funk classic "Ffun",their biggest hit,but who cares.
Group leader Felton Pilate makes sure that the funk is always
there such as in "Confunkshunize Ya'" but also delivers a smooth
Kool & The Gang/EWF mellow fusiony number in the instrumental
"Indian Summer Love".Why this is a budget CD I will never know.
It deserves instant remastering with a huge booklet and bonus
tracks-it's a classic of late 70's pop/R&B and funk!"
